Travelers will also have the option of extending their trip to include a visit to the Masoala Peninsula, the most biodiverse national park in Madagascar, with both marine and forest habitats, and over half of all species of plants, mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles found living here. Here we will seek out the Red-Ruffed Lemur, one of the 10 species of lemurs found in Masoala. Of these 10, four are on the red list of the International Union of the Conservation of the Nature (UICN). Masoala is the only place on the island where the least-known of the Malagasy carnivores, the mongoose Salanoia concolor or Brown-Tailed Mongoose, have been observed since 1970. You can also see rare species and malagasy wildlife found only here: the serpent eagle (one of the rarest birds in the world), the red owl and others. Finally, the Masoala sea is also home to the humpback whale, various dolphins, and the the dugong, along with 41 types of corals. Here is a place where you can hike, boat, snorkel, and have a fairly active adventure. This trip extension option adds a total of six days/five nights. There are fluctuating domestic flight costs not included in the noted price.
