Camino de Santiago Adventure Tours

This famous network of trails lies in northern Spain. The paths converge on the Galician cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the burial site of St. James the Great, and Camino de Santiago is also called “The Way of St. James.” The pilgrimage along these trails has been one of the holiest for Christians since the Middle Ages. St. James, originally from Spain, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. Upon his martyrdom in Jerusalem, his remains were shipped back to Galicia for burial. Although the number of pilgrims dwindled during the Black Plague and the following Enlightenment Era, its significance has resurged since the 1980’s. Modern pilgrims seek spiritual sustenance by walking the route. It is also a popular destination for hikers and bikers interested in learning about the history and culture of the area. In 2018, over 300,000 people completed the final 100 km of the route to earn the certificate of completion called the “compostela.”
