Alleppey Adventure Tours
Alleppey, also called Alappuzha, is a town in Kerala, India. Sometimes known as the “Venice of the East” Alleppey because of its numerous channels and canals. Travelers come to Alleppey for the beaches which are considered among the cleanest in India. Travelers may also visit several Hindu temples in the area. Alleppey is known for its snake boat races, including the Nehru Trophy Boat Race which occurs annually in August. Snake boats are long, narrow wooden boats with the rear portion rising dramatically out of the water reminiscent of a cobra raising its head off the ground. Traditionally, snake boats carried up to 100 or more paddlers who rowed to the rhythm of the “boatman’s song.”
