The Bird’s Word Blog
Are you a birder…yet?
Senior Director Will Weber talks about his love of birding, and warns that like it or not, you may be a birder someday too.
I am proud to admit that I am a life-long birder, and in traveling with Journeys for over 35 years, I’ve had many great opportunities to see birds throughout the world. I am not a fanatical ‘lister,’ seeking every possible species, but I do enjoy traveling with a guide who knows the calls, habits and field marks of the resident and migrant birds. However, I understand that not everybody shares this love of birding…. yet.
Birds are everywhere, and they represent a source of pleasure, color and amusement. No matter where you are – east Africa, Central America or the Himalayas – or the purpose of your trip – cultural activities, gorilla tracking, or trekking – you will see birds. And often in our destinations, not just any birds: you will see beautiful and exotic birds, and visit some of the most spectacular bird concentrations in the world.
Fortunately for our travelers (and for me), we are partners with many of the most knowledgeable and acclaimed birding guides in the world. This is especially true in India, Bhutan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Brazil, Galapagos and Antarctica. I have known many a non-birder who has traveled with these guides and become hooked, leading to a lifetime pursuit of birding.
We have a fantastic sample itinerary for a custom trip focused mostly on birding. We travel with outstanding guides, and we seek out the best habitats, stay in the best ecolodges, and enjoy the most favorable weather for an adventure that celebrates the beauty and abundance of the most colorful and interesting neotropical species.
I hope you will consider this trip for your next adventure; you don’t have to be a committed birder to enjoy it… but just a warning: you may be when you return.
